As Many Souls as Stars

As Many Souls as Stars by Natasha Siegel is a Gothic fantasy romance about witches and demons - in particular one demon who passes generations of time waiting for one witch to be reborn so the Faustian bargain they’ve struck can be fulfilled - or is this demon waiting for more personal reasons? Can a creature with no soul feel love?

The demon’s gender is unspecified (if demons even have genders), but they took a woman’s body and name - Miriam Richter - for their mortal form so I will refer to them as she/her. She took mortal form in order to satisfy her hunger - specifically her hunger for human souls to fill the void where hers is not.

She crosses paths with a family of witches, who believe that if the firstborn of the generation is male, all is well, but if she is female, she is cursed and if allowed to live will bring nothing but death and despair to the family. When Cybil Harding is born, her father believes he has the power and ability to break the curse which ultimately leads to his death - and the meeting of Miriam and Cybil, who find themselves drawn to each other, beginning the cat and mouse chase that will span lifetimes.

As Many Souls as Stars is an engaging Gothic fantasy romance that spans centuries where magic can cost your soul, and the world is full of love and betrayal and curses and murder.
