Patricia Wants to Cuddle
I wasn’t sure what to expect from Patricia Wants to Cuddle by Samantha Allen, but what I got was an immensely readable, funny look behind the scenes at a reality dating show interspersed with message board interactions and personal letters that made it feel even more real - even with the added titular character of a Lady Sasquatch.
The vapid bachelor, the final four contestants, the host, and the crew of a reality dating show are going to a remote, mostly deserted island town in the Pacific Northwest mostly known for the number of people who have gone missing there over the years - but the beauty, atmosphere, and, most importantly, the money were right.
There were so many characters between the show, the islanders, and even the commenters on the message boards, character development is not strong in Patricia Wants to Cuddle, but there is some fun and funny dialogue, some snarky commentary on stereotypes of dating show contestants, and some sweet community building highlighting the importance of found family. Plus a Lady Sasquatch.
At barely over 200 pages, this is a quick, one-sitting, escapist horror comedy (more comedy than horror but there is some gore) read.
