Spit Back the Bones

Spit Back the Bones by Teagan Olivia King is an eerie, American gothic horror romance with family curses, bog monsters, passionate love, deep-seated jealously, and hunger for power.

Three years ago, Mina’s brother went missing and has not been found, a year ago, something happened in the bog which is revealed over time that has caused a rift between her and her childhood boyfriend Roe, and she hasn’t been home since until now, when her sister Agatha messages her asking her to come home.

Upon arrival, she finds her alcoholic mother at home entertaining the Reverend (not for the first time) and learns that her sister is now missing.

Aided by Roe and her best friend Camille (also Agatha’s girlfriend), she starts investigating what happened to both her siblings and the others who have gone missing in the bog over the years - an investigation that is both helped and hindered by abilities that both she and Roe have - she can both raise the dead and hear them speak, while Roe is an empath who can take on feelings of those he is near and especially touching to an emotionally debilitating degree.

By talking to townspeople - both living and dead - they begin to uncover a secret about a multi-generational curse that affects both their families and nearly destroys them all - but which is the key to finding her brother and sister and freeing them from the curse.
