This Story Might Save Your Life

My cats demand breakfast each morning about 2 hours before my alarm is set, and sometimes I'll play a podcast repeat or music or something when I get back in bed. What does this have to do with This Story Might Save Your Life by Tiffany Crum?

I made the mistake of playing this audiobook instead of music, and I could not stop listening, so when I'm cranky at work today, I'll tell them it's Tiffany Crum's fault. (Or maybe blame it on Julia Whelan and Sean Patrick Hopkins who embodied the main characters, best friends and podcast hosts Joy and Benny.)

Audiobook is definitely the way to go for this one; it's well produced, the narrators are great, and there are snippets of call-ins and recordings, and even a bonus at the end - an episode of the in-world podcast.

In a real When Harry Met Sally, can men and women be friends? situation, Benny and Joy are best friends, but Joy's husband Xander never warms up to Benny (or vice versa).

The podcast,"This Story Might Save Your Life" shares near-death survival stories by finding the humor in the situations or suggesting outlandish ways they might escape and is reminiscent of real podcasts like "My Favorite Murder" which the author acknowledges. (Any other Murderinos out there?)

Joy and Xander go missing, and we learn more about her relationships with both Benny and Xander through the discovered draft of her memoir as we follow Benny's search for them.

This was a really fun listen. The characters and relationships felt real, the pace never let up, and the conclusion was very satisfying.

Thanks to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for the advance copy for my unbiased review.
