Home Movie (2008)

MOVIE 6 - 2025 Edition of 100 Horror Movies in 92 Days

Why do I torture myself with found footage films? I get so hung up on trying to understand why the characters have chosen to record the footage we're watching and what the pretext is that we're watching under that it distracts me from the film itself.

In this case, that film is Home Movie, a 2008 found footage film about a pastor, his psychiatrist wife, and their two creepy children.

The family moves to the middle of nowhere, as Doctor Wife tells us, for reasons unknown, but I pretty quickly start to suspect it's because their children shouldn't be among other humans as they constantly present as sullen, disobedient, and dangerous.

Home Movie starts slow, and though we see signs from the beginning, the idyllic family scenario really starts to unravel after this scene:

[CW: If you're me, and the one thing you don't want to see in horror has to do with animals in general, and family pets in particular, you want to FF from about 31:50 - 32:20.]

Stray Thought: They're really hard on boxed wine in this movie, but I think I was in 2008, too. It's gotten better, or I've gotten less discerning.
