Psyche (2025)
MOVIE 17 - 2025 Edition of 100 Horror Movies in 92 Days
The definition of limbo on screen that opens the film feels a lot like current reality, and Mara’s frustration with the various AIs she intersects with don’t do much to change that.
Mara is bound and dropped into a desert landscape which represents the limbo from which she must escape, guided by an AI that is basically fancy Clippy from olden Microsoft days.
Her journey is gamified, and she must solve puzzles and reach checkpoints within time limits in order to escape, constantly facing memories of her life and other, more esoteric visions, apparently working through some trauma.
The dialogue and concepts expressed through it are mostly trite and simple, but Sarah Ritter as Mara is engaging and giving it more weight than the words alone would suggest possible.
