Diavola
“The moment passed into irrelevance.”
This is not the theme of Diavola, it’s just one of my favorite lines in it. I have experienced this feeling so many times, as someone who is always trying to find just the right word or phrase to express my thought specifically, I find that my chance to express it at all has passed, and this “moment has passed into irrelevance” describes that perfectly.
Choosing just the right words is something that Jennifer Thorne does throughout Diavola, through the imperfect Anna who is extremely relatable to anyone who has an imperfect family, who feels haunted by the responsibility of one’s role in that family or in their job or other relationships.
Diavola is perfect for fans of modern gothic horror, especially if you like it laden heavily with dark humor.
