Find Me Where It Ends

I just listened to Find Me Where It Ends by Cassandra Khaw (narrated by Isaiah Nichols). Well, to be precise, I just listened to Find Me Where It Ends by Cassandra Khaw (narrated by Isaiah Nichols) twice. I love her writing and voice so much that I get lost in the cadence, the rhythm, the words she chooses and the way they sound when they’re read aloud that I forget to comprehend their meaning.

Which you don’t want to do because she also tells good stories.

The women in Antigone’s family always know when their death is near because it arrives in the form of a physical manifestation of a black dog. And when hers arrives, she opens the door and welcomes it in.

As she goes through her days with her new companion, she reflects on her life that got her here and on how it will end.

Find Me Where It Ends is packed with emotional gut punches hiding behind the poetic language as Antigone wrestles with her choices and the guilt she feels about them, including the one she’s making in the midst of her depression - which she never names but we come to understand she’s experiencing.

Find Me Where It Ends is sweet, sad, funny at moments, surprising, and, yes, even scary at times although the true horror comes less from the ghosts and more from the living and the guilt, fear, and dread that accompany us through it.
