One of Us by Dan Chaon explores themes of the self, otherness, found family, and what it means to live and die in the trappings of a thrilling adventure novel.

I listened to this on audiobook, and I'm glad I did. The story is told in first person, and we hear Cara talking to an employment program counselor/social worker, but her revelations sound more like she's writing in a diary or at least talking to a traditional therapist because she is so open and honest.
