Wake Up and Open Your Eyes

Listening to the audiobook of Wake Up and Open Your Eyes while reading at the same time didn’t totally work for me. It wasn’t necessarily the narrators and overall narration that nagged at me, it is an issue I have with audiobooks in general, but because of how much the music - and Anderson Cooper’s voice - were in my head while reading, the speak-singing of the ear worms and classic rock and other music and the not-Anderson Cooper - though I understand the reasons for both - were disappointing.

The book itself perfectly matched my dark Gen-X sense of humor and as a satire of our literal current existence is spot-on. I have never felt a sentence more in recent years than, “Seems like a strange time to be out for some exercise, what with the world ending” because everything every day feels like that.

“Strange time to read a book, strange time to stress about work, strange time to adopt a cat”. But daily life goes on in a weird way (from my position of relative privilege at the moment anyway) and like that dog in the burning house, “This is fine.”
