You Did Nothing Wrong

You Did Nothing Wrong by CG Drews is a haunted house, domestic suspense, psychological thriller from the perspective of an unreliable narrator, and, yes, it's as good as that sounds.

Elodie, a young single Australian mom, is swept off her feet by an American, Bren, and they marry - and have a new baby on the way - within a couple of months, and she and her six-year-old (probably autistic) son Jude move with him to his old fixer-upper in Virginia.

Elodie is terrified of someone taking Jude away from her, dropping vague hints about her past experiences, and she is desperate for others to see Jude as a normal, well-behaved boy, in spite of his tantrums and violence towards her, not to mention his fear of something living in the walls of their new home.

She also starts feeling suspicious of Bren, from his anxiety around his family to overheard whispers about her at family gatherings to his hot and cold behavior towards Jude.

Is the house really haunted? Can she trust Bren? Can Bren trust her? Can we trust her? There are a surprisingly few number of yes answers among these questions, and they may not be the ones you think - but they may not even be the most important questions because families and love are complex and no more so than in You Did Nothing Wrong.

I listened to this on audiobook, and Saskia Maarleveld did a beautiful job narrating.

Review copies of the ebook and audiobook courtesy of NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and MacMillan Audio for my honest feedback.
