Yours Cruelly, Elvira
I enjoyed listening to the audiobook as it was narrated by Elvira herself, Cassandra Peterson, though it was a little hard to follow at times as she skipped back and forth in time occasionally.
Part Hollywood tell-all, part rags to riches story, Cassandra appeared not to pull any punches in naming names or sharing painful memories from her life.
Whether intentionally or not, she revealed a lot of who she is, both positive, such as talking about her charity work with animals and the gay community including AIDS activism to the less positive, such as suggesting men can’t be sexually assaulted and some fatphobic remarks.
I am only a casual Elvira fan, but she is a cultural icon, and her Movie Macabre was part of my formative early teen horror fan growth, so she’ll always hold a special place in my memory, and I think any fan, from casual to hardcore, would enjoy seeing a little bit of what makes her tick.
