Wolf Man (2025)
MOVIE 2 - 2025 Edition of 100 Horror Movies in 92 Days
I am a fan of Leigh Whannell (especially when he is playing Specs in the Insidious universe, but I digress), so I was fully prepared to give Wolf Man the benefit of the doubt in spite of what I've seen/heard the internet saying about it.
What worked for me:
Set in the Pacific Northwest but filmed in New Zealand, the outdoor wilderness scenes were gorgeous.
The cinematography of the accident scene - so disorienting it made me dizzy.
Decent body horror if you're into that. I'm not particularly usually, but it doesn't bother me.
What didn't work for me:
Generational abuse cycle - yelling at your kid then gaslighting her that you didn't swear then making light of her pleas not to fight in front of her when I am just here for the Ma'iingan Odengwan - Face of the Wolf. I'm all for some layers to my monster movies, but this is not the layer I want.
Wolf Man v. Wolf Man fight scene. Just. No.
Sometimes the internet gets it right, I guess. The creature feature wasn't exciting enough, and the character's stories/relationships weren't believable or interesting enough, so overall Wolf Man didn't succeed at either.
